Kassim Al-Refai (1967) was born in Ramtha, Jordan (some hundred kilometres north of Amman at the border
with Syria). He studied at Yarmouk University in Irbid and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine
Arts in 1989. In 1994 he obtained his Masters Degree in Educational Management and Supervision at the
same university.
Since then he has been working as university lecturer in Art Education and supervisor for Educational
Activities. He leads training courses in Art Teaching and practical Studio Art (painting) for which he
developed a new teaching process for Art Education.
Since 1985 Kassim participated in many group exhibitions in Jordan and held several solo exhibitions
in Jordan and Iraq. His work can be found in museums and private institutions in Jordan. Since 1998 his
work is regularly exhibited in The Netherlands.
Kassim Al-Refai is amongst others a member of the Jordanian Plastic Artist Association and the Arabic
Centre of Culture and Art.
In September 2007 he won the first prize at the exhibition 'Art in Progress' in Damme, Belgium.
